Sports rights and variety
Request sports rights

Student sports rights (SSR) are available not just to WUR students but also to students of other universities and PhD candidates. There is a special arrangement for students about to do an internship or go on an exchange and for graduates who still wish to belong to a student sports association.

This is achieved in collaboration with qualified instructors, Thymos, and the SSA’s. Additionally, SCB serves as a welcoming and motivating meeting place where responsible and enjoyable physical activity is central.

SWU Thymos
SWU Thymos is Wageningen University's sports association and represents the interests of all student athletes in Wageningen. It is a student-run organisation consisting of six students. The association's goal is to get as many students as possible active and involved in sports. It does this by acting as an umbrella organisation for all student sports clubs and by organising various events.
Sports Internal Competitions
Beach volleyball is one of the sports in the internal competition! It is played during the first and third rounds of the SWU Thymos Internal Competitions due to the weather. Play with at least four team members against other teams and enjoy the beach feeling! A match lasts 30 minutes and is played on one of the outdoor beach courts at the SCB.
Knotsbal is a popular sport in Wageningen. It is played 4 against 4; both teams try to hit a rubber ball with a knots (a stick with a foam head) against the opponent's mat. A team must have at least one woman and consist of at least four players. Matches last 30 minutes and are played on one third of a sports hall. Up to 40 teams have participated in this competition at the same time!
Don't feel like playing football at home every weekend, or do you want to play as often as possible? We organise the SWU Thymos Internal Football Competition for you! Football is played 7 against 7 on half a football pitch. Matches last 60 minutes and a maximum of 32 teams can participate in this competition! During the matches, there are no restrictions on substitutions and the offside rule does not apply. Otherwise, the normal football rules apply.
The word futsal comes from the Spanish words “fútbol” (football) and “sala” (hall). Futsal is played on pitch C (next to the tennis courts) and is played 5 against 5. A match lasts 1 hour and there are unlimited substitutions, so everyone can give their all during these fast-paced matches. Except for offside, all regular football rules apply to this great game.
Student sports associations
Wageningen University has 32 different Student sports associations (SSAs). In addition to training sessions, these clubs also organise social activities and are a great place to meet people with similar interests. In addition to these clubs, SWU Thymos promotes various recognised clubs (ESVs) that are not exclusively for students. Membership of these clubs is subsidised by SWU Thymos. WUR alumni can remain members of an SSA for up to five years after graduation. You will need alumni sports rights for as long as you remain a member of the association.
Recognised sports associations (ESVs)
In and around Wageningen, there are sports associations that offer sports that the SCB does not offer. To support a wide range of sports, SWU Thymos promotes these associations among students and offers subsidies to reduce membership fees.
