Toolbox for irrigated croplands in East Africa

- JP (Joao) Carvalho Nunes, PhD
- Associate Professor
Soil Physics and Management developed a Toolbox to help land managers assess new interventions in irrigated croplands for the WATDEV project (Climate Smart WATer Management and Sustainable DEVelopment for Food and Agriculture in East Africa).
Joao, Mulugeta, Samar, Mohammed and Rik conducted two training workshops with local water managers and experts in Addis Ababa and Cairo. The local partners contributed to the development of the Toolbox and were very interested in the work of SLM as a whole. Besides the training, we connected with many colleagues from Ethiopia, Egypt and other partner countries working with hydrological models, remote sensing and field experiments to assess the impacts of new land management techniques on crop yield, water use and fertilizer use.
