Xuan Zhang wins poster award at ASIATOX 2026

thisle

PhD student Xuan Zhang from the Toxicology chair group won fourth place in the Student Poster Presentation Award at ASIATOX 2026, the 11th International Congress of the Asian Society of Toxicology held 3-6 August 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The prize for the student poster presentation award is handed over to Xuan Zhang.

She received the award for her poster entitled “Studying the apparent permeability of silymarin using in vitro and ex vivo intestinal models.” Her poster examines how flavonolignans from a widely used milk-thistle extract cross the human intestine using advanced human in vitro models, including a newly developed intestinal stem cell model. Understanding silymarin absorption is important because some constituents, including silychristin, may interfere with thyroid-hormone transport and potentially affect neurodevelopment.
