Biography

Biography

Britt is researching small-scale managed aquifer recharge (s-MAR) as a community-driven approach to addressing water-related hazards. Her work situates s-MAR interventions in the linked human-water systems in which they are implemented, exploring why and how people act to implement s-MAR, and how that action in turn (re)shapes social and hydrological systems.

A central focus is drought risk reduction in small and upper catchments where water from shallow wells supports local livelihoods. Her research contributes to the field of sociohydrology, and aims to help practitioners better understand the dynamic contexts where interventions to address water-related hazards are implemented, so that strategies intended to address water challenges are less likely to inadvertently aggravate the very problems they seek to solve.

Britt brings more than 20 years of applied experience to this work. As founder of Ecothropic, she has led projects on watershed governance, flood and drought risk reduction, and climate policy across Latin America, the Pacific Islands, and the Middle East, often in collaboration with governments, multilateral institutions, and international NGOs.
