Biography

Kathy Broekmeulen currently works as a researcher at the Department of Animal Health and Welfare of Wageningen Livestock Research in the Netherlands. Her expertise includes adaptation physiology, animal welfare, animal behaviour, and cognition. She holds a PhD from the University of Bern, Switzerland, where she investigated how environmental factors during on-farm hatching shape behavioural development and stress responsivity in laying hen chicks at the Center for Proper Housing: Poultry and Rabbits (ZTHZ). As a member of the European Training Network ChickenStress, she collaborated with leading endocrinology and neurobiology research groups in Switzerland and the United Kingdom. She also gained industry experience at MSD Animal Health, where she developed educational content on poultry health and vaccination strategies for veterinarians and poultry producers.
