dr. C (Claudia) Kamphuis

I am an animal scientist, and received my MSc at Wageningen University in 2004. I started my PhD study in 2006, at Utrecht University. During my PhD, I used sensor data from automated milking systems to improve the automated detection of mastitis in dairy cattle. The application of machine learning to analyse these sensor data played a crucial role during my PhD. I defended my PhD successfully in 2010, after which I moved to New Zealand with my husband and two kids. Here, I started as researcher in the 'Milk Harvesting and Farm Automation Team, of DairyNZ. This team focussed to implement automation and information technologies to reduce labour, and improve farm profitabiility and productivity. We moved back to the Netherlands in 2013, where I accepted a post-doc position at Business Economics, at WUR. Again, sensors and precision livestock farming played an important role in my research. Since 2016, I work as a researcher for Wageningen Livestock Research, at the Department of Animal Breeding and Genomics. The projects I am currently involved in all have a strong link with Big Data analytics and how this can be used in research in the animal domain.
