dr. EJ (Eva) Meeus
Biography
Eva obtained her BSc degree in Interdisciplinary Sciences (majoring in Chemistry) from the University of Amsterdam in 2017, and her MSc degree in Chemistry (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2019. She completed her PhD at the University of Amsterdam early 2024 under the supervision of Joost Reek and Bas de Bruin, working on transition metal-catalyzed nitrene and oxygen atom transfer reactions in water for in vivo applications. During her PhD, Eva was awarded the HRSMC Mobility Grant, which enabled her to conduct research on cobalt-based artificial metalloenzymes in the laboratory of Thomas Ward at the University of Basel. After completing her PhD, she subsequently joined the group of Bill Morandi at ETH Zurich as a postdoctoral researcher, supported by an NWO Rubicon Postdoctoral Fellowship, where she worked on the late-stage diversification of peptides and peptide-based drugs and heterogeneous shuttle catalysis. Since January 2026, Eva has been appointed as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry at Wageningen University, where she combines her PhD and postdoctoral expertise to develop new bioorthogonal catalysts and prodrug activation strategies for synthetic and therapeutic purposes.
