dr. F (Frank) Vrieling, PhD
Biography
Dr. Frank Vrieling obtained his MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Leiden University in 2013. After graduating, he began a PhD project at the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), where he investigated the association between tuberculosis and type 2 diabetes using primary human macrophage infection models and metabolomics.
In 2019, he joined the Division of Human Nutrition & Health (HNH) at Wageningen University as a postdoctoral researcher to continue his work at the interface of human metabolism and immunology. During this period, he developed a technique for immunometabolic profiling in complex samples, known as CENCAT.
In 2023, he joined the Diabetes group in the Department of Internal Medicine at RadboudUMC as a postdoctoral researcher. In 2024, he returned to HNH as a lecturer in the Nutrition, Metabolism & Genomics (NMG) chair group while maintaining his research position at RadboudUMC. From 2026 onwards, he rejoined NMG full-time as an Assistant Professor.
