Biography
I study coastal ecosystems and the impact of human disturbance on the resilience and functioning of these important coastal habitats. During my PhD, I investigated the role of grazers such as turtles and fish in tropical seagrass ecosystems, using field experiments, lab trials, and camera tag technology. I also worked on mapping seagrass beds and seagrass and mangrove restoration in the Dutch Caribbean.
In my current role as a marine researcher at Wageningen Marine Research, I am involved in several research projects with a focus on salt marsh and seagrass ecology. For example, I monitor and analyze vegetation and sedimentation dynamics of salt marshes in the Wadden Sea, and I am part of a large West Atlantic network (Thalassia Experimental Network) of researchers studying the impact of climate change on marine plant-herbivore interactions.
