Biography

Biography

Dr. Janneke Ransijn is a quantitative marine mammal ecologist and currently leads the Marine Mammal Research team at Wageningen Marine Research (WMR), overseeing the organization’s work on marine mammal research and conservation. Her own work focuses on predator-prey interactions, spatial and statistical modeling, and the ecological effects of human activities such as offshore wind development. She has a particular interest in harbour porpoises, seals, seabirds and fish using data-driven approaches to support conservation and marine management.

Additionally, Janneke has researched bycatch biodiversity and the behavior of small-scale fisheries.

Janneke earned her PhD from the University of St Andrews, where she studied multi-species predator-prey dynamics in the North Sea. At the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) she was also a research fellow, contributing to interdisciplinary projects that integrate ecological data, acoustic monitoring, and environmental modeling.
