Biography
Biography
My research focuses on marine benthic ecology, coastal ecosystem functioning and marine conservation ecology, with the ultimate aim to contribute to evidence-based conservation and restoration of coastal habitats (i.e. seagrass, mangroves, corals) and the ecosystem services they provide. My expertise lies in habitat quality assessments, sediment biogeochemistry, stable isotope analysis, marine invertebrate biology (nutrition, growth, reproduction), shorebird ecology, movement ecology, foraging ecology, experimental ecology and (underwater) field sampling. I work mainly in (tropical) soft-sediment systems, including lagoons, intertidal mudflats, saltpans, seagrass beds and mangrove forests.
