Biography

Biography

I am specialized in mitochondrial bioenergetics, muscle (stem) cell differentiation & function, and live-cell imaging. My research aims to investigate the role mitochondria and redox homeostasis on the functioning and differentiation of skeletal muscle both in vitro and in vivo. A specific focus will be on (the formation of) neuromuscular junctions and modulating mitochondrial bioenergetics and redox homeostasis, e.g. hypoxia, gene knock-out, aging. Key analysis parameters are neuromuscular junction morphology and mitochondrial (dys)function using live-cell imaging, immunohistochemistry, RT-qPCR and Western blotting. All these data will finally be related to overall muscle differentiation and function.
