Education
- Committed to the BSc and MSc programmes Earth System Sciences
- Contribution to the following courses (study programmes and year between brackets):
- Starting course for the programming environment R: A (very) short introduction to R .
- A series of knowledge clips for the course Water Systems: Exploration in which we explain basic concepts in hydrology and water quality.
- In the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) Sustainable Urban Development on EdX, I have a small contribution on pluvial flooding.
- I made two Dutch knowledge clips for non-hydrologists about brooks: one together with the Bekenstichting about "spring brooks" and one (older) mini-course brook hydrology.

My expertise is on improving flood forecasting in lowland catchments by looking at both the precipitation input and the simulated hydrological processes. My focus on lowland areas naturally connects me to Dutch water systems, though I also supervise students or PhD researchers working abroad. I analyze discharge and groundwater observations and developed and maintain a rainfall-runoff model to simulate hydrological variables, accounting for lowland-specific processes, which is used operationally by water authorities. I use rainfall observation, statistics and forecasts based on radar and personal weather stations for discharge forecasting, and climate scenarios for future projections of hydrologic extremes.
