Biography

Marion Herens has over 25 years of experience in food and nutrition security and health promotion in the national (the Netherlands) and international domain. She has worked as an expert for various national and international organisations, e.g., FAO. She is experienced in managing the processes of formulation, implementation and evaluation of multi-sectoral food security, nutrition and health promotion programmes and projects. In the domain of health and physical activity promotion, she has had multiple job positions, relating to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of lifestyle interventions and health policy at national and municipal level. During her PhD she evaluated the impact of Dutch community—based physical activity programs targeting socially vulnerable groups. In addition, she is a skilled and experienced facilitator of interactive action-oriented research, policy and planning processes, and is a skilled trainer.
Presently, she holds the position of food and nutrition security expert at Wageningen University & Research - Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation (WCDI) . Responsibilities include  amongst others, programme management (urban food systems, nutrition and health) in various settings in Africa and Asia; design and implementation of (action)research; design and development of participatory monitoring and evaluation trajectories of (research) programmes focusing on food system transformation; and, capacity development and training programmes for professionals.
