Biography

Biography

As a marine biologist specializing in benthic ecology, my work focuses on understanding marine biodiversity and the ecological functioning of benthic habitats in the North Sea and Wadden Sea. I am interested in species-habitat interactions, ecosystem restoration, and the role of natural and artificial substrates in supporting marine life.

Currently, I am exploring the use of Unmanned Underwater Drones (UUVs), as innovative tools for ecological monitoring. These techniques can be applied across a wide range of environments, including aquaculture systems, mussel and seaweed cultivation sites, oyster reefs, shipwrecks, offshore energy infrastructure, and other artificial habitats, to make monitoring more efficient, scalable, and safer.

Alongside my research, I am an enthusiastic Wadden Sea guide, sharing knowledge about one of the world's most dynamic coastal ecosystems. Combining scientific research with public outreach allows me to connect people with the marine environment and show the importance of conserving and restoring our special underwater ecosystems.
