ir. EH (Eelke) Westra

I am an innovation manager at Wageningen Food & Biobased Research, where I focus on storage, transport and packaging of food and plant-based resources. For more than 22 years, I have been working at the intersection of science, industry, and policy to develop and scale technologies that improve food quality, reduce waste, and strengthen circular value chains.

In my roles as Programme Manager and Business Development Manager Fresh & Logistics, I accelerate the translation of scientific insights into practical solutions. I set up public-private partnerships, build strategic collaborations with companies and start-ups, and support the adoption of next-generation technologies in areas such as energy-efficient cooling, sustainable packaging, and quality-driven logistics.

I am co-inventor on patents in packaging and controlled-atmosphere technologies, contribute to scientific publications, and frequently appear in national media to share insights on food quality, sustainability, and innovation. I also contribute to knowledge platforms such as FreshKnowledge.eu. My work reflects my commitment to building resilient, resource-efficient food systems and enabling innovation across the entire value chain.
