Biography

Biography

Jan-David started his PhD at the aquaculuture and fisheries ecology (AFI) group in July 2026. The objective of his project is to explore the role of aquatic foods in circular food systems.

Jan-David graduated from Wageningen University with a BSc and MSc in Biosystems Engineering. During his studies he focused on dynamic modelling of biobased production systems and assessing their environmental impact. For his bachelor thesis he worked on modelling nutrient dynamics in aquaponic systems, for which he was awarded by the CLAAS Foundation. During his MSc he focussed on greenhouse technology. After graduation Jan-David worked at the NIBIO research institute in Norway, researching the efficient use of supplemental light in greenhouses at high latitudes, resulting in his first publication. Later he worked in the CiFoS team at WUR, contributing to the development of a food system optimisation model, resulting in co-autoring a nature food publication.
