Biography
After completing my studies in Biology, Forest & Nature Conservation, and Aquaculture & Marine Resource Management, I worked for three years as an ecologist and project manager at Stichting De Noordzee. There, I focused primarily on protected areas and species, as well as the impacts of offshore wind farms on North Sea ecosystems, including during several North Sea expeditions.
As a next step, I wanted to return more strongly to research, which led me to join Wageningen Marine Research. I currently work there as an ecologist and researcher. I initially focused on fish ecology, but later specialized fully in marine mammals, particularly cetaceans.
My work has included topics such as tagging harbour porpoises, international agreements and policy frameworks (including ASCOBANS and the International Whaling Commission), bycatch, and other anthropogenic impacts. Through my research an policy advice, I aim to contribute to the sustainable management and effective conservation of marine ecosystems.
