J (Joost) van Dalen

I specialize in developing machine learning models for environmental monitoring, with a focus on remote sensing and computer vision. Previously, I worked on detecting marine litter using Sentinel-2 and PlanetScope imagery.

At Wageningen Marine Research, my current work includes mapping littoral shellfish reefs in the Dutch Wadden Sea using Sentinel-1, as well as applying computer vision to a variety of imaging platforms. This involves detecting species such as birds from aerial imagery, identifying zooplankton in microscopic images, and quantifying seaweed biomass in raceways.
