Biography

Kirsten studied Human Movement Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and received her MSc. (research) degree in 2018. She continued with a joint PhD degree at Amsterdam UMC, the Netherlands, and Griffith University, Australia. In her PhD, she worked on developing neuromusculoskeletal modelling and simulation techniques to better understand how neural, muscular, and skeletal impairments affects human walking. She obtained her PhD degree in 2023. After this, she returned to Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam as a postdoc, working on the use of virtual reality to assess daily functioning of persons with vision impairment.

Kirsten joined the Adaptation Physiology Group in 2025. Here, she focuses on the use of sensor data to better understand and predict animal health and welfare.
