Appointed as one of up to seven members of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors (GCSA), the highest-level scientific advisory body to the European Commission. The GCSA operates under the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) and provides independent, evidence-based advice directly to the Commissioners on topics with significant policy impact. The group’s reports inform EU decision-making and are also used by national governments. Past topics include sustainable agriculture, food from the oceans, the energy transition, cancer screening, microplastics, and One Health.
