NM (Niels) Hoek

I am an environmental lawyer and researcher. In my work, I focus on biodiversity governance, nature restoration law (and legal barriers to restoration) as well as emerging environmental issues (such as light pollution or Rights of Nature).

I am involved as a lawyer in the Legal Working Group of the Society for Ecological Restoration Europe (SERE) and a senior editor of the European Journal of Legal Studies.

My current affiliation is as a researcher in Public and Constitutional Law for Nature and Environment at Wageningen University & Research and as a PhD at the European University Institute (EUI), where I previously coordinated the Environmental Law and Governance Working Group. Other (past) affiliations have been as legal researcher for environmental NGOs (e.g. Natuur & Milieu/Vlinderstichting), as well as a Lecturer EU Law at Radboud University Nijmegen/researcher at the University of Vienna.
