Biography
Christiaan Biemond (born 1981) is Business development Manager at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). Christiaan is fascinated how plants and science can impact the quality of life. After obtaining his Master degree in Plant Sciences at WUR, he joined the Dutch Fruit growers Association to support the optimal allocation of research funds, in a way that farmers are involved and can benefit from applied research. In 2008, Christiaan joined the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Nigeria. His research focused on the question if farmers could maintain seed quality to benefit from improved varieties. Christiaan returned to the Netherlands in 2011 to obtain his PhD under supervision of Prof. Paul Struik from WUR. Afterwards Christiaan worked for biotechnology company KeyGene as business developer in the area of digital phenotyping.
In 2019 Christiaan joined WUR as Business development Manager. Key responsibilities are Account management, New business development, and support of business units and chair groups. He works on a range of different topics including plant breeding, crop protection, seedbanks, decision support systems, big data, and finance. His main driver is to understand the challenges of industry and society, seek solutions with WUR researchers and strategic partners, and jointly create new research programs to contribute to the WUR mission “to explore the quality of nature to improve the quality of life”.
