Biography
Peiqiang Yu will spend a sabbatical at the Animal Nutrition Group under the WIAS Visiting Scientist Fellowship. Peiqiang is a professor and Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Research Chair in the Department of Animal and Poultry Science at College of Agriculture and Bioresources, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. The sabbatical is supported by the Graduate School Wageningen Institute of Animal Sciences (WIAS). Peiqiang received his Ph.D. from the University of Melbourne, Master of Science from Wageningen University & Research. Since his appointment, Peiqiang has developed an internationally recognized program that focuses on a fundamental understanding of molecular structure of feeds in relation to nutrient utilization and bioavailability. Peiqiang leads alaboratory that is unique in Canada and is only one of a few internationally that utilize cutting-edge synchrotron to analyze how the molecular structure changes induced by various feed technological and bio-technological treatments, feed processing and gene modification (gene inserting, gene silencing) influences nutrient utilization and availability. Peiqiang published more than 300 SCI referred journal articles. Peiqiang was awarded a highly prestigious Canadian Society of Animal Science Award - Excellence in Nutrition and Meat Science. Peiqiang is in “World's Top 2% Most Influential Scientists List” up to date as reported by Stanford University professor John P.A. Ioannidis and his research team. Peiqiang will develop and participate in research and teaching programs, particularly in the area of advanced synchrotron-based molecular nutrition research, strengthening the collaboration between Wageningen University and the University of Saskatchewan.
