Professor/Chairholder Landscape Architecture
Biography
Educated as a landscape architect and urban designer, I have worked in design practices (e.g. B&B, Sant en Co and Mecanoo) for several years before going into academia. Since 2004, I have been teaching and researching at Wageningen University. In 2010, I received my PhD on urban climate responsive design and since then I have integrated urban climate science with urban and landscape design practice. Our resarch team working on urban climate publishes widely in refereed academic journals and my book on urban climate adaptation "Weather in the city" is acclaimed internationally.
In the past years I have developed methodological approaches for 'Research Through Design' in landscape architecture, which is reflected in various projects (e.g. Realcool, SOLOCLIM, Fertile Soils, Multifunctional Canalscapes) and publications.
Since 2020 I have been serving as Full Professor and Chair Holder landscape architecture in Wageningen University.
