Biography

Biography

Dr. Qinhong Xu is a political ecologist whose research examines the social and political dimensions of environmental governance. Drawing on conceptual frameworks such as imaginaries, technology, infrastructure, hydrosocial territory, and governmentality, her work analyzes power dynamics among the state, local authorities, and communities in water and marine governance.

She received her Ph.D. from the Water Resources Management Group at Wageningen University. Building on this foundation, her current research agenda focuses on the digitalization of nature, exploring how digital technologies, such as artificial intelligence and digital twins, are increasingly mobilized in environmental management and decision-making, and how they reshape governance practices and environmental politics. She is particularly interested in the implications of China’s digital and ecological governance for global environmental politics.

Prior to joining Wageningen University, Dr. Xu studied International Development and International Relations at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands) and Nanjing University (China), respectively.
