Biography
As a broadly interested biologist and ecologist I specialize in the distribution, ecology, life history, and evolution of (non-native) marine and freshwater species, using both taxonomic and molecular approaches.
Fieldwork in the Netherlands, Ireland, France, Denmark, and Sweden during theses and periodic work have shown me insights into (non-native) marine species distribution throughout nature and aquaculture networks where species were identified using both taxonomic and molecular methods. In addition I like to learn more of taxonomic species identification, illustration, and application and optimization of molecular assessment methods.
Currently, I work as an Education/Research officer on various projects such as whole genome sequencing and eDNA projects using Oxford Nanopore Technologies' PromethION and MinION sequencers.
Since recently I am a core member of the team Genomic Fish Atlas of the Netherlands which aims to construct genetic genomic data of 100 individuals of each fish species in the Netherlands. Currently, I have sequence 100 European eel, Weatherfish, Burbot, River lamprey and Perch for this project.
Lastly, diving as a hobby allows me to see the marine species in their natural environment.
