Biography

Biography

Sylvie is a postdoc researcher under the Swiss National Science Foundation grant.  Her PhD was completed under the director of Territories of Urbanism, Prof. Paola Vigano at EPFL in Lausanne.  She has a bachelor's degree in Architecture and a master's degree in Urban Design from Harvard.  Her research addresses the issues of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta, whereby compounded by the impact of climate change, its past Delta management has resulted in systemic loss of biodiversity and the obliteration of natural ecosystem processes.

Her research aims to rethink the history of delta management, by bridging the knowledge gap between its current planning process and the Delta’s physical qualities as a territorial-based mechanism informed by urban design frameworks. It aims to develop a novel transdisciplinary research methodology to connect the current planning and water management practices to other disciplinary fields more knowledgeable about the Delta’s physical values. Her research approach shall combine research advancements in environmental science and expertise in nature-based Solutions in Water Sensitive Urban Design, to integrate existing and developing new Social-Ecological Systems into the wider Delta Management Planning strategies. Ultimately bringing together Urban Design and Environmental Science entities of land dynamics to create a more sustainable approach to ecosystem resilience.
