TCA (Twan) Cals, MSc

Twan Cals completed his MSc in Environmental Sciences in 2020 and has been working as a researcher in the Sustainable Soil Management team at Wageningen Environmental Research since 2022. His work focuses on developing and applying modeling tools to quantify nutrient flows within Dutch agriculture. These models are used to estimate gaseous emissions, including ammonia, nitrogen oxides, nitrous oxide, and methane.

In addition, he contributes to the annual agricultural emissions reporting within the Dutch Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR). He is also involved in several policy-supporting studies, such as the Climate and Energy Outlook (KEV), the Monitoring and Evaluation of Nitrogen Reduction and Nature Improvement Programme (MESN), and ex-ante assessments related to the Nitrates Action Programme.
