Summary

The research focuses on the connections between forests, the forest industry, and other economic sectors in Latvia and neighbouring countries. It analyses how the use of forest resources affects employment by supporting jobs in forestry, manufacturing, and related services, while also addressing the role of forests in absorbing CO₂ emissions and contributing to climate change mitigation. The study also evaluates the economic significance of forest-based industries and their potential to supply renewable energy. By considering social, environmental, and economic dimensions, the research identifies opportunities to use forest resources in ways that balance economic growth, environmental protection, and community well-being. These findings contribute to the long-term sustainability of the forest-based bioeconomy in the region and align with the objectives of the European Green Deal.
