Cibia FoodTech Facility - advanced FoodTech Research Center

Good to know
In short- Integrated combination of both processing and sensory facilities
- From laboratory to scale-up capabilities at one single location
- Multidisciplinary analysis: chemical, microbiological, sensory, health
- Access to the Wageningen ecosystem: university, startups, SMEs and multinationals
- Supported by national funding for advanced research infrastructure
Cibia (completed in 2026) is a leading facility for innovative research into food processing, product development, and consumer behavior. It's an ideal location for companies and other research partners to accelerate and innovate the development and production of their food products.
What opportunities does Cibia FoodTech Facility offer you?
At Cibia you’ll everything you need to research, develop, and scale up innovative (mild) processing methods. This includes separation, downstream processing, preparation and formulation, mild preservation, food structuring, mixing, and 3D food printing.
At this facility you’ll have access to highly professional food-grade kitchens, advanced sensors, analysis tools, and test labs for chemical, microbiological, sensory, and consumer-focused evaluation. This allows you to complete the entire R&D pipeline from ingredient to consumer, all in one place.
Cibia's unique feature is the connection between developing and scaling up food products. There’s also a wide range of facilities available to characterize these products in various areas, such as:
- chemical
- physical
- flavor/aroma
- microbiological
- biochemical
- digestibility
- health
- sensory properties
and the interconnections between these areas.
Who benefits from Cibia FoodTech Facility?
Both established food companies and R&D departments, as well as start-ups and research institutions are welcome at the facility. Also, other parties in the value chain looking to experiment with new processes, products, or consumer insight can benefit from the research possibilities at Cibia.
Would you like to rent your own space in the new FoodTech Facility for your R&D department or start-up? There are opportunities available. Please contact Rianne Ruijschop for more information.

Do you have a question about Cibia?
Cibia will officially open in the course of 2026, but several facilities are already available. Contact Rianne Ruijschop, R&D Manager Food Technology, for more information.
