News about diagnostics in horses
From now on, horses that will be exported to South Africa must be tested by both Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) and the WOAH Reference Laboratory for surra (T. evansi). Testing includes only the CATT, which must be performed by both WBVR and the WOAH Reference Laboratory.
WBVR will forward the sample to the WOAH reference laboratory. The costs and turnaround time of the additional test can be found in our price list. The submitting party will receive an invoice for all tests. Please take this into account when submitting samples to avoid unexpected delays or costs.
We are pleased to inform you that the ELISA for African horse sickness (test code APP01) is once again being performed in-house at WBVR. Samples no longer need to be forwarded. As a result, the usual turnaround time of 1 to 3 working days applies again. We thank you for your patience and understanding during the outsourcing period.
The laboratory to which Wageningen Bioveterinary Research outsources the CBR determination for Babesia caballi (B. caballi) with test code BCB03 and Theileria equi (T. equi) with test code THE03 has announced that it will no longer be able to perform this test as of 4 August 2025. WBVR regrets that it will no longer be able to serve its customers by offering this test. After 31 July 2025, WBVR will no longer accept samples for this CBR
