Student testimonial

Student Alessandro - MSc Food Safety

During his bachelor's degree, Alessandro first heard about the master's Food Safety. He didn't have to think long about this choice. Especially since politics and regulatory affairs were his main interests and the specialisation Food Law fits this perfectly.

I understood Wageningen was the right one when I saw how serious the requirements were and how modern the university, the campus and the facilities are.

Can you describe briefly who you are and what you are currently doing?
"I am Alessandro, 23 years old from Italy. I’ve just begun my internship in the Regulatory Affairs Team at Kraft Heinz in Nijmegen. I mainly work with labels and claims, investigating changes in the current European legislation.

In the past six months, I completed my thesis on the Nagoya Protocol and private standards."

When did you first hear about your study programme and what did you think about it?
"I first heard about it during my Bachelor degree back in Italy, visiting the website of WUR. It immediately caught my attention and I honestly didn’t have to decide among different programmes.

I understood Wageningen was the right one when I saw how serious the requirements were and how modern the university, the campus and the facilities are."

Could you tell us something about your study programme? How have you arranged it to fit your interests?
"I have a deep interest in the European Union’s policies and institutions. My bachelor's in Gastronomic Sciences had given me the opportunity to study food from an holistic perspective, but I understood that politics and regulatory affairs were my main interests.

Therefore I tried to include in my programme as much courses as possible on EU and international legislation. Now I work for a global company, therefore I hope to apply this knowledge."

Which part of your study did you find the most interesting?
"What I liked the most are Union Institutions and Policies, Food law, Global trade law and US and Chinese Food Law."

What do you do besides studying? Do you have a special interest or talent?
"I am a runner, I like reading and watch YouTube videos about many different topics (history, politics, AI). I also like to stay with my friends and enjoy spare time."

What do you think about student life in Wageningen?
"The university is exciting and motivating. Wageningen itself is quite small but for me, the offer of pubs and local is more than enough. I would suggest the experience to people who love running in the woods, live quietly with their friends in huge buildings and appreciate the idea of a small community of people where you meet your friends every day."
