Administrative Assistant Dairy Farming

Your job

In this role, you will collect and administer sustainability data from dairy farms for the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN, or in Dutch: Bedrijveninformatienet). You will manage your own portfolio of dairy farms, supplemented by businesses in another agricultural sector (e.g., intensive livestock or arable farming). You will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with these farmers. Therefore, you’ll work closely with our FADN participants at one of our regional offices in: Alkmaar, The Hague, Drachten, Holten, Goes, Oisterwijk, Meijel, or Wageningen.

The Farm Accountancy Data Network (www.wur.nl/bedrijveninformatienet) is a network of approximately 1,500 agricultural and horticultural businesses, 100 cutters and other fishing vessels, and 150 forestry companies. At Wageningen Economic Research, around 50 administrative staff members maintain this network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting financial and sustainability data from a fixed group of FADN companies. These data are gathered from the farm’s administration (either physically or digitally via electronic invoices), derived from farm accountancy reports provided by accountants, or collected through questionnaires. The data are stored in a database and made available to researchers.
  • Managing relationships with FADN participants. You will compile an annual report for each business, including financial results and key environmental indicators, and generate a digital benchmarking overview on MijnAgrimatie.nl. During your farm visits, you will explain these reports and answer questions. You will also initiate the data collection for the new year during these meetings. Annually, you will recruit several new participants to replace natural attrition. After your onboarding period, you will be on the road about one day per week (full-time).

  • You have strong numerical skills, are familiar with digital accounting systems and/or financial automation, and you work accurately with great attention to detail.
  • You can work well independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues and farmers.
