All-round laboratory assistant (Fisheries)

Your job

Do you enjoy variety in your work, want to contribute to fish and fisheries research, and enjoy working as part of a team? If so, we have a great vacancy for you at Wageningen Marine Research as an all-round laboratory assistant in IJmuiden!This position is offered initially for a period of six months.

With your practical experience, species knowledge and attention to detail, you will ensure that the research can be carried out effectively.

Your duties and responsibilities are: 

  • sample processing in WMR’s research facilities or during visits to fish auctions across the country;
  • logistical organisation of sampling both at the lab and in the field;logistical organisation of sampling logistical organisation of sampling both at the lab and in the field;
  • fishing vessels to collect samples;
  • recording research data, identifying any anomalies and supplying data to researchers.

You will be working alongside various colleagues in different project groups in the field of fish and fisheries and will be versatile enough to contribute to a range of studies, such as by-catches and commercial fish. You will be based at the office and research facilities of Wageningen Marine Research in IJmuiden. 

Your qualities

You are a proactive and solution-oriented team player with strong communication skills and a professional attitude towards fishermen. You are also able to work effectively both independentlyand as part of a team.and as part of a team.

You also possess: 

  • A minimum of an MBO-4 qualification or equivalent, and a keen interest in fisheries research. Experience in (freshwater) fisheries, research, and knowledge of fish and other marine species is an advantage.
  • Category B driving licence.
  • Basic knowledge of fish and other marine species.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours, due to unloading and vessel visits.
  • Proficiency in Dutch at B2 level.
  • Attention to detail to be able to interpret and carry out sampling and data protocols.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 2,824.- and  € 3,567.- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 6). We are offering you a six-month fixed-term contract, which will be extended depending on the availability of research projects and your performance.
