Chemical analyst

Your job
As a chemical analyst, you will be strengthen our team of analysts within the Emissions & Manure Valorisation department of Wageningen Livestock Research.
With your knowledge of (wet) chemical analyses, you will contribute to quality assurance, the continuous development of new analytical methods, and the documentation of new protocols within our laboratory facilities. In addition, as an analyst you play an important role in supporting researchers and project leaders with operational analytical methods. The laboratory operates independently within the department.
Your tasks and responsibilities as a chemical analyst include:
- Providing support for innovative research projects by applying practical and scientific expertise in sampling, sample preparation, methods, analyses, and data validation.
- Managing routine technical maintenance of equipment.
- Offering general support to laboratory users, including researchers.
- Working within the guidelines of an ISO 9001 certified laboratory.
In summary, you will use your knowledge, expertise, practical experience, and analytical-technical skills to ensure the successful operation of the laboratory as well as effective support and collaboration with researchers.
Your Workplace
The laboratory in which you will be working is part of the Emissions & Manure Valorisation department. Our experts develop knowledge and innovations in the fields of greenhouse gas, nitrogen, particulate matter and odour emissions from livestock housing, manure processing, and manure valorisation. Our 40 researchers, project leaders, measurement technicians and analysts work in interdisciplinary teams on assessing environmental impacts in livestock farming, and we collaborate extensively with other parts of Wageningen UR and external partners.
Our core activities include:
- Measuring emissions - we operate an air quality and chemical laboratory, and our measurement team is deployable nationwide.
- Developing cost-effective innovations and socially desirable improvements to reduce emissions from livestock housing and improve indoor climate conditions.
- Finding solutions for more efficient use of manure and minerals.
Your qualities
You have a keen eye for the quality of both the analyses carried out and the analytical techniques used. You are an analyst with instrumental analytical knowledge, practical skills in chemical analysis, and you enjoy working with others. You are proactive and focus not on problems but on opportunities, challenges, and solutions.
You also possess:
- A completed MLO-level education in physical chemistry, analytical chemistry or a comparable field.
- The ability to quickly master and implement new analytical techniques.
- Interest in environmental and environmentally related research topics.
- Affinity with quality management and the ambition to further strengthen this.
- Good command of Dutch and English.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 2,824.- and € 3,567.- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 6). Additionally, for this role a contract for 24 hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended.
