Your job
The DSI (Data Science & Information) expertise group is looking for a BI Specialist to apply and further develop our metadata-driven data management solution. You will support data stewards and researchers from various research groups in using and implementing the data management solution within their research projects.
This solution is based on the Microsoft BI stack. You will structure data sources within the data warehouse, safeguard data quality, and contribute to data access and visualization, often through the use of Power BI.
You play a key role in defining requirements for the further development of the data management solution. To determine the right choices and approach, you are able to create a clear overview of information needs within projects.
This is a broad role in which you communicate with equal ease with both functional users and technical developers. Because you oversee this full spectrum, you are able to implement the right solutions and prioritize development requirements effectively.
Your Team
DSI (approximately 30 staff members) is the expert group in the fields of Data Science, Business Informatics, Digital Governance, Digital Innovation Ecosystems, Data-driven Business Models, and the ethical, legal, and social aspects of AI.
DSI collaborates with all other research groups on market-oriented research within the broader WSER domain. The team consists of a subteam of researchers and a subteam of system developers and IT specialists, within which this position is embedded.
- The researchers focus on digital challenges in the agri-food domain, such as improving supply chain transparency for more sustainable systems, defining data spaces, and providing frameworks, standards, and practical policy advice to the sector.
- The IT specialists and system developers support WSER’s research with practical solutions such as a data platform, integrated datasets, and high-quality dashboards and websites. WSER stores valuable sector information, including administrative data, financial transactions, and sustainability data.
Together with other WSER groups, DSI operates in both national and international markets, serving governments, NGOs, and businesses by delivering research products and advisory services.
Your Qualifications
- Academic level of thinking and working, with at least a completed (technical) bachelor’s degree (HBO level);
- At least 5 years of experience in (dimensional) data modeling across different domains;
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing and data management; experience in the agro & food domain is a plus;
- Demonstrable experience with front-end design in Power BI, including knowledge of best practices and patterns in visualization, reporting, and dashboarding;
- Experience working in a Scrum/Agile environment is a plus;
- Ability to identify opportunities for applying the data management solution within research projects and to implement these solutions.

You have the drive and capability to contribute to maintaining and developing the data architecture;
- You are communicatively and analytically strong and able to bring structure to complex data challenges in collaboration with colleagues;
- You can work intensively with diverse stakeholders, ranging from researchers to software engineers;
- You have a strong focus on improving the quality of processes and products, both within and outside the team;
- You have experience coaching less experienced colleagues, using your expertise and communication skills;
- You have an excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written. Proficiency in Dutch is mandatory for this role.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between € 3.399,- and € 6.228,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10 - 11). Additionally, For this role a contract for hours can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
