Your job

As a Front Office Employee, you are the first point of contact of WUR Library. You give students, staff and external visitors a hospitable and professional welcome and ensure a pleasant and inspiring study environment.

Your duties and responsibilities as Front Office Employee include: 

  • performing all common daily work at the lending desk such as answering questions and helping with a loan;
  • providing an attractive, neat and safe public space;
  • organising various activities, for example in the context of student well-being;
  • making an active contribution to the (further) development of WUR Library's services, putting the user's perspective first;
  • welcoming first-year students to the library in the context of education in information literacy, by assisting with the Library Game.       

Your team

You will work with four Front Office colleagues, the team coordinator, several on-call workers and a group of students who work as Evacuation Assistant. Your workspace is located in the library in the Forum Building on the Wageningen campus. The work takes place according to a schedule determined in consultation. Evening and weekend services may be part of it.

Your qualities

You easily connect with people, are service-minded and proactive, and are attentive to your surroundings. You are willing to continue developing your skills (professionally). Creativity and the ability to maintain an overview are also useful qualities for this position.

You also possess: 

  • minimum MBO 4 (vocational education) working and thinking level preferably trained as a library worker, in information services or related field;
  • MS/Microsoft Office skills and you are able to quickly find your way in various digital (search) systems and applications;
  • empathy for the world of students;
  • interest in the wishes and needs of visitors to the library, curiosity to investigate these and translate them into improvements in services;
  • a BHV diploma, or willingness to obtain one;
  • good verbal and written communication skills in both Dutch and English.

The Library department is part of Facilities & Services at Wageningen University & Research (WUR). With 65 dedicated staff members across four specialized departments, the Library offers innovative support to both researchers and students. You will help us optimize the use of our collections, systems and support services from the perspective of our users. In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between € 3.029 and € 3.623 for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 6). Your contract will be between 12-16 hours a week. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended, if possible within (company) organizational circumstances, on good performance.
