In your role as part-time lecturer, you will be responsible for coordinating the redesign of the curriculum of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology chair group.  

  • You will work together with researchers and lecturers of the group to train a new generation of epidemiologists.  

  • You bring experience in innovative active learning activities to the group and have a vision for how to apply these to a diverse, international student population.  

  • You have a One Health mindset and are eager to transfer this to your students.  

  • You have an affinity for quantitative methods and are able to transfer this enthusiasm to students with different academic backgrounds.  

  • You can connect people and will use these skills to improve the embedding of our teaching activities in the Animal Sciences and Biology curriculum and the broader veterinary and epidemiological community.  

Your duties and responsibilities include:  

  • Contributing to cursory teaching 

  • Coordinating the redesign of the IDE courses and other educational activities 

  • Contributing to the visibility of IDE education for students and professionals 

  • Embedding the IDE education in the relevant WUR programs  

Your team 
You will be part of the chair group Infectious Disease Epidemiology  (IDE), which is led by Prof. Quirine ten Bosch. At IDE, we study the spread and control of infectious diseases in animal populations and at the human-animal interface. Our research supports the effective control and management of infectious diseases, ensuring preparedness for global challenges such as pandemics and emerging pathogens. We offer BSc and MSc education in the Animal Sciences and Biology study programmes on the prevention and control of outbreaks and endemic diseases. Topics include epidemiological study design, risk assessment, and statistical and mathematical modeling.

Your qualities

You also possess: 

  • An MSc and/or PhD in epidemiology, animal sciences, biology, veterinary medicine, statistics, or related field 

  • Two years or more teaching experience at a university setting  

  • A university teaching qualification 

  • Experience in course design 

In our international working environment, there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position we require at least C1 level in English.  

Scale 7 up to and including 10

Depending on your experience, we offer a competitive gross salary of between €3.704,-  and €5.538,- for a full-time working week of 38 hours, in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreements for Dutch Universities (CAO-NU) (scale 9, 10). This position is offered on the basis of 24 hours per week Additionall, a contract for 16 hours a week  can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a temporary appointment for one year, with an option for extention of1.5 years.
