As a (Senior) Project Controller, you will be part of an ambitious team where you have plenty of room to take initiative. You are responsible for the financial management of externally funded research projects. From budgeting to final financial settlement, you translate financial information into meaningful insights for research activities. You maintain contact and collaborate closely with project leaders to ensure sound financial project management.
Together with the Business Controller and project leaders, you ensure thorough control and risk management of the projects. You have a complete overview of the financial aspects of these projects. You identify potential risks at an early stage and take action when necessary.
Your role
- guiding (subsidy-funded) projects and taking responsibility for their financial management;
- acting as the key contact person for the controller and project leaders, while maintaining communication with external project partners and stakeholders;
- contributing to the implementation of internal control measures;
- identifying potential financial risks in time and taking appropriate action;
- closing each financial period with a complete and reliable financial result, while contributing significantly to the balance sheet file and the annual accounts;
- safeguarding the reliability of financial information and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations, policy guidelines, and procedures;
- contributing to the further professionalisation of the Project Control team.
- Depending on your experience, you may also be responsible for:
- delivering complete project files (including discussions with the auditor and answering audit questions);
- managing the finances of complex (subsidy-funded) projects;
- acting as coordinator for (complex) projects.
Your team
Within the Plant Sciences research group, we work at an international top level in research and education. Together with national and international companies, research organisations, and governments, we focus on themes such as healthy and sustainable food and non-food plant production. Our innovations play a crucial role in addressing societal challenges.
As a Project Controller, you are part of the Finance & Control department, which consists of Business Control, Project Control, and Financial Administration. In this role, you will have a high degree of responsibility and independence, working closely with skilled and enthusiastic colleagues across various departments.

Your qualities
- a completed bachelor’s degree in higher professional education (HBO), such as HEAO Business Economics, Accountancy, or a comparable financial programme,
- at least 4 years of work experience in a financial environment,
- and experience with project administration and the financial management of projects;
And
- you are customer- and service-oriented,
- naturally seek collaboration,
- easily build new connections,
- have everything it takes to independently prepare and analyse financial (audit) reports,
- and you are not afraid to express your independent professional judgement.
- you speak Dutch at a minimum of B1 level
You will also recognize the following skills in yourself: you like to take initiative, you are flexible, honest, accurate, and always looking for opportunities to further develop yourself.
In our international working environment there is an increasing amount of communication in English. For this position it is about language level B2.

We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €3.399,- and € 5.478,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 9/10). Additionally, For this role a parttime contract can be discussed. As for your contract, we initially offer a one-year contract that can be extended - if possible within (company) organizational circumstances - on good performance.
