Your job
Would you like to contribute to the quality of education at Wageningen University? As Secretary to the Board of Education, you play a pivotal role in supporting governance and decision-making. You support the Board, oversee processes, and ensure that everything runs smoothly, both organisationally and substantively. Does this sound like the right opportunity for you? If so, we would be delighted to hear from you.
As Secretary, you support the Board of Education of Wageningen University. The Board of Education is the governing body of Wageningen University’s accredited Bachelor's and Master's programmes and oversees the quality of education. The Board of Education consists of four staff members and four student members and is chaired by the Dean of Education. In this varied role, you are central to supporting the Board of Education and contribute to the effective functioning of this governing body. In doing so, you work closely with the Assistant to the Board of Education.
Your tasks and responsibilities as Secretary to the Board of Education include:
- Preparing meetings of the Board of Education, taking minutes, and monitoring the follow-up of actions and decisions. You ensure that decisions are communicated clearly.
- Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence.
- Drafting the annual report and maintaining the archives of the Board of Education.
- Contributing to the recruitment and selection of new student and staff members, as well as supporting their induction and onboarding programme.
- Acting as the first point of contact for questions relating to ongoing policy matters and previously adopted decisions.
Your team
You will join the Policy Support team. This team comprises support for the Board of Education, policy advisers, and support for the Programme Committees.
You will regularly liaise with the Policy Support Coordinator regarding your work and will also work closely with the members of the Board of Education and the Dean of Education.
Your place of work will be Wageningen. Due to the Policy Support team day and the meetings of the Board of Education, you will in any case work on campus on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Where you will work
You will be part of Education & Student Affairs (ESA), Wageningen University’s central education department. ESA plays a key role in aligning the supply of and demand for education and is responsible for quality assurance, policy development and implementation. Within ESA, work is carried out in both accredited degree programmes and professional education. In addition, the department supports students, WU teaching staff and the delivery of education. ESA is led by the Dean of Education.
Your qualities
You are proactive and able to work independently. You work in a structured and meticulous manner and are able to maintain an overview, even when managing multiple priorities simultaneously. You ensure that commitments are met and deadlines are achieved. You handle confidential information with care and act with integrity at all times.
You also have:
- A completed Bachelor's degree (HBO) or university degree.
- Excellent written communication skills in both Dutch and English.
- Strong digital skills: you are proficient in Word, Excel and Teams, manage documents carefully, and are able to use AI applications to work efficiently.
- Experience supporting governance and decision-making processes within a complex organisation, preferably in higher education.
In our international working environment, communication increasingly takes place in English. For this position, a C1 level of English is required. If you have not yet reached this level, we will of course support you, and you can make use of the courses offered by our language centre, Wageningen in’to Languages.
As you can see, this role offers plenty of challenges. These challenges can also be viewed as opportunities for development. Therefore, even if you do not yet have the exact track record outlined in this vacancy, but do have solid professional experience, we would still be very pleased to receive your application.
