Astrid de Greeff works at Wageningen Bioveterinary Research (WBVR) at the department of Infection Biology where she has a double function, dividing her time between project management and business development. Research within this department focuses on the complex interactions between hosts (livestock) and pathogens. As a projectleader Astrid is a generalist, combining complimentary techniques towards a multidisciplinary solution for scientific and commercial challenges. Her research is focused on host responses to infections, nutrional interventions, and vaccines in healthy and diseased livestock. Astrid has a special interest in Streptococcus suis infections in piglets, in particular in host pathogen interactions and pathogenesis studies to identify new vaccine candidates or improve diagnostics. She is also involved in several projects on (gut) health of livestock, where the effect of (dietary) interventions on intestinal gene expression and morphology, intestinal development and microbiota composition is studied. Astrid strongly believes that connecting people is a key prerequisite for making both scientific and commercial progress. At WBVR, she facilitates scientific interaction between people of all departments by organizing the Cees Wensing Lectures, named after a former director. Externally, she initiated a Public Private Partnership where industrial, academic, and service oriented partners work together on a solution to prevent S. suis disease. Bringing people together will generate new solutions. As part of her task as acquisition manager, it is Astrids mission to convert WBVR into a more professional and customer-oriented organization to ensure a prosperous future for WBVR. Using her enthousiasm and expertise shell continue to advertise the unique selling points of WBVR for optimal benefit to all parties.
