Samenvatting

In an effort to design a smart N management system for major field crops, like rice, wheat and maize, to achieve the sustainable agricultural production, in this thesis, comprehensive studies have been conducted on crop modelling and remote sensing, which have been applied to forecasting and monitoring crop growth, respectively. I investigated the impacts of varied N application rates on leaf photosynthesis and crop growth for providing crucial links from leaf photosynthesis prediction to field N optimisation. The results revealed the significant roles of crop modelling and remote sensing in the designed smart N management system for real-time in situ N optimisation.
