Samenvatting
The so-called MSK animal diseases and zoonotic diseases is part of the Dutch National Rural Area Programme (NPLG). For decision-making by local authorities on spatial planning issues, the advice related to this MSK, as described in the NPLG guidance document, is to take into account, among other things, farm and animal density as a risk factor for the between-farm transmission of livestock diseases and zoonoses. In order to do this, a definition of farm and livestock density is needed, accompanied with a density threshold value above which a location is considered as a farm and animal dense location. In this report, various possible choices for the definition of farm and animal density were tested against the knowledge about transmission risks of livestock diseases, against an existing definition of concentration areas from the Dutch Fertilizers Act and to an existing list of poultry-dense areas related to particulate matter. The results of this report provide candidate definitions with descriptions of their quality.
