The EU regulations on the recyclability of plastic packaging products, environmental issues like microplastics and the plastics soup, and the public opinion on plastics force companies to develop sustainable alternatives. This presentation illustrates why we need packaging and discusses current end-of-life scenario’s. It gives insights how to assess sustainability and concludes with examples on how to improve the properties of bio-based plastics to broaden the application window.
