Erik Delaquis is an external Ph.D. candidate and associate researcher with CGIAR - CIAT. Erik is a Canadian national based in Lao P.D.R., where he works in the cassava programme of CIATs agrobiodiversity research area. With a work history including 3 years in West Africa and 4 years in Southeast Asia, Erik enjoys a global perspective enriched by a B.Sc. in biology with minor in applied ethics (University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) and M.Sc. in plant science (McGill University, Quebec, Canada).
Erik has been a fortunate past recipient of a Canadian government international youth internship, an OceanPath fellowship, and a CIAT 'young scientists for the future' fellowship.
Current broad academic interests include seed production and exchange systems, the agroecology of farming systems, management of crop genetic resources, and farmer networks.
At WUR Erik is a Ph.D. candidate with the C.T. De Wit Graduate School of Production Ecology & Resource Conservation, with research focused on understanding several aspects of cassava seed system structure and functioning in Southeast Asia. He is cross-appointed with two chair groups:
