Open Science

WUR embraces the principles of Open Science in its research and education. Open Science promotes a more transparent and collaborative way of conducting, publishing, and evaluating research. By opening up our research, we create greater scientific impact, bring more scientific knowledge to society, and work across institutions to address societal challenges.

In line with the UNESCO recommendation on Open Science and as a contributor to the Universities of the Netherlands’ agenda on Open Science, WUR actively encourages the sharing of knowledge, data, methods, and other research outputs so that research can be verified, reused, and expanded by others. Society can participate in the research processes through citizen science initiatives and benefit from the knowledge and developments that arise from our research.

Support for Open Science at WUR

Established in 2019, the WUR Open Science & Education Programme (OSE) assists researchers and educators in engaging in Open Science practices through a combination of organisational policy and direct support.

The Open Science Community Wageningen (OSC-W) connects researchers, students and support staff of WUR and associated research institutes to stimulate transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility of research.

How WUR engages in Open Science

Open Access Publishing

In line with national goals, WUR publishes its research Open Access. Publishing Open Access allows WUR to share its knowledge with the world and makes it easier to build on each other’s work.

Make your Data FAIR – WDCC

WUR strives for research data to become Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR). The WDCC (Wageningen Data Competence Center) and WUR data stewards play a crucial role in this.

Citizen Science

Through Citizen Science, WUR can connect science and society around common matters of interest and concern. It is both an opportunity to strengthen public trust and for citizens to experience science first-hand.
