‘Good’ Food Dialogue: The role and agency of different actors in changing our dietary patterns

What can we expect from each other when it comes to healthy and sustainable food? What are the responsibilities of all players in the food chain? In the dialogue series ‘Good’ Food, we investigate the role and agency of different actors in creating a real change in our dietary patterns.

Agency and responsibility

Over the last decade, the growing public awareness of interconnected crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, malnourishment and obesity have drawn more attention to the food we eat. As these combined challenges become increasingly pressing, we fall short in addressing them adequately. The nature of each of these challenges is complex and the ability to foster change is distributed across different actors in society. This can lead to sustained inaction and points towards the agency and responsibility of societal actors to contribute to 'good’ solutions. This includes researchers, policy makers, companies, NGOs, and people in their dual roles of citizens and consumers.
