SweetPotato is a traditional Chinese music group of semi - professional and professional musicians. After several years performing Chinese folk songs in the Netherlands, Shuhang initiated this music group in 2013 together with several other student musicians of WUR. Through time the group has re-shaped and members are from all over the Netherlands.
SweetPotato aims to introduce live traditional Chinese music to Dutch and international environments and promote intercultural communication, using traditional Chinese instruments - guzheng, er-hu, pipa, bamboo flute, Gu-qin, xiao, together with piano and vocal. Their music ranges from classical Chinese pieces, folk songs with modern arrangements to popular songs with typical Chinese elements. The musicians perform in formations from solo to full ensemble, and collaborate with other music genres. From Wageningen to the whole Netherlands, the group has given over 40 concerts and has participated in various festivals.
Yuqi Han (piano) was born in China and graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory, following the guidance of Dutch pianist Martyn van den Hoek. She received a score of 10 for her master’s final concert. She is active as a soloist and chamber musician in the Netherlands and elsewhere in Europe, and is a founding member of the Florestan Ensemble.
Shuhang (soprano) began her vocal training at age 10 in China in Chinese folk and classical styles. She continued her vocal development in the Netherlands, while studying for her MSc and PhD (Plant Sciences) at Wageningen University. She won the 2017 Water Cube Cup (NL region) and received an Excellence Award at the global finals in Beijing.
Art songs of China

About the lunch concerts
Every Tuesday from 12:30 to 13:30 we invite you to enjoy a lunch concert or performance on Wageningen Campus: a moment to come together, relax, and be inspired by live music or dance.
The lunch concerts are meaningful because they:
- connect – students, staff, and visitors meet in an informal setting
- surprise – each week features a different artist and genre
- celebrate diversity – both professional performers and students share the stage
- energise – a performance in the middle of the day brings inspiration and a fresh perspective
This creates a varied series where no week is the same.
