About Re-ordering World Order

To make sense of international upheaval, we focus on the context of world order and what is new about this present moment. Just how different is this from old world order? Dr. Gjovalin Macaj, examines the setting in which power is shapeshifting. He will unpack the notions of hard and soft power, hegemony, unilateralism and multilateralism, taking us on a tour of the backdrop to states’ relations. This will involve consideration of ‘law of the jungle’ and ‘rules’ jargon on a slippery slope away from international legal order as we have known it. He takes us into the terrain of legal order’s normative dilemmas and critical differences between it, and a rules-based order in a multi-polar landscape. Together we wrestle with concept creep which otherwise muddies our passive understanding of the world around us. If international geo-political news makes you dizzier with each day, take this invitation to get grip on one of the most important aspects of our common futures and develop fresh insights which point us in hopeful directions.

The global context in which some of the most pressing planetary challenges need to be addressed is shifting. From trade to climate crises measures and beyond, the international sphere of power and relations between states touches our fields of expertise as well as our professional and private lives. Fractures and fissures in world order are shaking the foundations of the structures and arrangements long taken for granted. Take stock of shifting power dynamics and explore what is emerging on the horizon. Who or what is shaping new world order? Navigate with us through that which can make us feel small and powerless with fresh insights that even speak to our sense of agency in a complex world.
